Upsets and Surprises
Most of our occurrences centered around the state of Georgia. Georgia struggled against Missouri, but won the game with two strong drives in the second half of the last quarter. Georgia Tech, who had been struggling so far this season, stepped up and beat Pitt. Little Georgia State defeated our nation's Army cadets. Our last upset saw struggling UConn shock the visiting Fresno State Bulldogs.
Big Ten Report
Ohio State performed as expected. Michigan had some trouble against the tough Iowa defense, but prevailed. Penn State's offense sputtered, but they succeeded. However, the other top team, Minnesota, suffered their first loss of the season against the Purdue Boilermakers. That wasn't the only surprise, as Nebraska's penalty problems spread to their opponent, costing Indiana a victory.
As expected, the top of the East division is stacked with unbeaten teams: Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. They have two teams with 1-1 conference records, but Indiana's non-conference losses hurt their position. That just leaves Maryland in fourth place. Rutgers and the surprising poor Michigan Sate Spartans are in the bottom of the diviison.
The West division has gotten interesting. Minnesota's loss leaves no unbeaten teams in the division. Surprisingly, Wisconsin finds themselves in the basement, thanks to Nebraska's win. Six of the seven teams in this division have 1-1 conference records. With unbeaten non-conference records, Minnesota and Illinois lead the division. Purdue and Iowa follow with 3-2 overall records, and Northwestern's pathetic performances land them in the bottom of the 1-1 teams.
MAC attack
Aside from Kent State showing life, all of these games ended mostly as expected. Buffalo has taken their expected position atop the West division. Bowling Green and Kent State won their first conference games to sit in a tie for second place. Toledo and Western Michigan each have a 1-0 conference record, but Toledo's better non-conference record puts them atop the division. Toledo is also the only MAC team currently with a positive point differential.
