We had some near upsets among the Top 25, but by the end of the game they all finished as expected. Some of the performances were not up to snuff, though, which is why some teams fell despite a victory.
Top 25 [Last week's position]
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0) [1] : Once again their offense started slowly, but they ended up rolling over Georgia State.
2. Oregon Ducks (5-0) [2] : The behemoth that is the Ducks offense was flying high again.
3. Florida State Seminoles (5-0) [5] : Unbelievable performance against a strong Maryland team. Both the offense and defense had a huge game.
4. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0) [3] : They trailed for the first time all season, but Braxton Miller brought them back, despite a poor performance for more than half the game.
5. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0) [4] : Where was the offense?
6. Louisville Cardinals (5-0) [6] : Another stellar performance for Teddy Bridgewater and company
7. LSU Tigers (5-1) [8] : Huge victory for LSU against a tricky opponent. LSU may be the only team remaining on Alabama's schedule who can beat the Tide.
8. Stanford Cardinal (5-0) [9] : Close game against Washington, but Stanford still playing very well.
9. UCLA Bruins (4-0) [7] : They may have won, but they looked terrible against Utah on Thursday night. The Bruins may struggle against the stronger teams in the Pac-12.
10. Texas A&M Aggies (4-1) [10]
11. Clemson Tigers (5-0) [13] : The Tigers rolled, slicing apart the Orange. The battle between Clemson and Florida State will be the most anticipated of all ACC games this season.
12. Michigan Wolverines (5-0) [12] : They mashed Minnesota. That bye week really helped the Wolverines.
13. Miami Hurricanes (5-0) [14] : Georgia Tech's defense slowed them for most of the game, but then Miami poured it on in the fourth quarter.
14. Georgia Bulldogs (4-1) [11] : The Bulldogs were lucky to beat Tennessee. The Vols are decent this year, but Georgia shouldn't have had that much trouble. This was definitely a letdown after their dusting of LSU.
15. Washington Huskies (4-1) [15] : They may have lost, but the Huskies still impressed.
16. Northwestern Wildcats (4-1) [17] : The Wildcats were the only team this season to establish a lead over Ohio State, and they nearly won. This team may be the best in the Legends division, despite a loss in conference play.
17. South Carolina Gamecocks (4-1) [16] : Kentucky nearly beat them. This is the third game where the Gamecocks did not play well, especially on defense. Steve Spurrier needs to address this before they play the toughest SEC teams.
18. Baylor Bears (4-0) [18] : Another blowout victory
19. Wisconsin Badgers (3-2) [19]
20. Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-0) [30] : The Raiders vault into the Top 25 after a dominant victory over Kansas and poor performances by some other teams.
21. Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-1) [20] : Both Oklahoma teams had ugly wins this week. The Cowboys have to straighten themselves out or they won't last in the Top 25.
22. Fresno State Bulldogs (5-0) [24] : The Bulldogs offense was on full display this week.
23. Arizona Wildcats (3-2)
24. Missouri Tigers (5-0) [28] : Great offensive performance, but Vandy found some holes in their defense that Mizzou needs to seal.
25. Northern Illinois Huskies (5-0) [25] : After some impressive wins over Big Ten teams, pathetic Kent State pushed them hard.
Dropped out: UCF Golden Knights [#21], Maryland Terrapins [#22]
On the Edge: Florida Gators (4-1), Houston Cougars (4-0), Ball State Cardinals (5-1), Auburn Tigers (4-1), Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-1), Michigan State Spartans (4-1), Iowa Hawkeyes (4-2), BYU Cougars (3-2), Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-2)
